Highlights this weekend include Kulshan Trackside's Oktoberfest (noon to 7 p.m. Saturday), Larrabee Lager Co.'s Oktoberfest (noon to 10 p.m. Saturday), Gruff Brewing Co.'s Oktoberfest (noon to 9 p.m. Saturday) and Beach Cat Brewing's"Catoberfest" (noon to 7 p.m. Saturday).
But Oktoberfest isn't the only autumnal event to look forward to. Saturday is the first day of of the Whatcom County Dahlia Society's annual dahlia show, and several Whatcom County orchards — including Bellewood Farms and Sm'Apples Orchard — are now open for U-Pick apple harvests.
If your fall reading list needs a touch of inspiration, know that there are still tickets available for Jodi Picoult's author talk at WWU this evening. Village Books also has two noteworthy author events on Saturday and Sunday, featuring Rolling Stone journalist Hannah Murphy Winter with Billie Winter (presenting the photo book "Queer Power Couples") and local author Patricia Alarcón Missler (sharing "Border Town Chica").
Finally, a brief return to the subject of beer. Boundary Bay Brewery is celebrating 29 years in business this weekend. To join the festivities, head to their beer garden Saturday night for family-friendly fun, dancing and music by North Sound Soul. It just so happens that Boundary Bay is the oldest craft brewery in Bellingham — so if you regularly imbibe in local brews, this is an anniversary worth celebrating.
