A few days before Christmas and I'm back under the weather with lurg (hooray!). This one can be traced back to a cold and drizzly 30-minute wait for a bus after Paul McCartney's first night in Manchester - me and Mark B headed up there to cover the show at the Co-Op Live Arena. Check out Mark's five-star review here - I got to speak with some wonderful fans who'd travelled from all over to get to the gig (shout-out to Stefan and Steffi, and Eleanor and Gillian). That was the last gig of the year for me, and what a spectacular one it was. Now it's time to load up on Vicks and cough syrup, and enjoy the blissful silence of my inbox. I hope all of you have a splendid winter break, whatever you're getting up to, and thanks so much for subscribing to Now Hear This. See you all in 2025 x |

| Musician Julian Lennon, the son of late Beatles star John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia Powell, has revealed that he has been treated for skin cancer a second time.
On Wednesday evening (18 December), the 61-year-old singer shared a message with his followers informing them that he had undergone surgery on two areas on his skin, shoulder and forearm, one of which was melanoma.
Lennon explained that he had received an urgent call from his doctor, who previously treated him for the condition, shortly before flying to Los Angeles for an appearance on Good Morning America and other appearances in support of a new book.
"My lovely dermatologist [was] the one who caught and operated on my mole skin cancer a few years ago, and literally saved my life," the musician and photographer wrote.
"Anyway, after having just finished GMA, I received a message from Dr Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles, as I had two locations on my skin, shoulder and forearm, one of which was melanoma, that should be operated on asap!!" Full story here. |

| Spotlight on... Nancy Williams |
|
| Q. Hello! Tell me about yourself |
|
| A. II'm Nancy Williams a singer songwriter from Merthyr Tydfil and I started writing songs when I was 12 years old but I plucked up the courage to show my best friend when I was 14! Ha. And she said it was really good but she is my best friend! That's like your Mam saying you're pretty! So I showed my Dad and he wanted to post it on his Facebook but I wasn't sure but he wanted to for his birthday (as a present) so I let him. And that was the start. | |
| Q. What are your inspirations and influences? |
|
| A. During Covid I spent a lot of time watching people like me on TikTok writing songs in their bedrooms. I never had like a big name who influenced me, it was more like a little community we had and we'd show each other what we'd done. I felt really supported. I do love people Lizze McAlpine and Gracie Abraham. |
|
| Q. What do you have lined up for 2025? |
|
| A. I'd love to perform in as many different places as I can. I love to travel. I hate staying in the same place. I don't really think about the future or have plans I just see where life takes me really. That's was I find the most exciting, just seeing what each day brings. |
