Travis Kelce was busted for weed.

As the Cincinnati Bearcat's quarterback, Kelce tested positive for marijuana in 2010 when the NCAA unexpectedly tested the team leading up to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

The blow, which came with a yearlong suspension, eventually led Kelce to declare himself to the NFL draft, and we'd say he came out alright...

Uh, make that three times.

Next Sunday, Travis is headed back to New Orleans with the Kansas City Chiefs to potentially collect a fourth Lombardi, unless Philadelphia can pull off an upset.

The acceptance of cannabis in both the NFL and the NCAA has evolved drastically since Kelce was kicked off the team 15 years ago.

The NCAA removed cannabis from its banned drug list last June. In 2022, the NFL had pledged $1 million to cannabis research and also have reformed their marijuana policy, recently more than doubling the THC limit.

Is the stigma finally breaking? Is research moving forward? How are athletes building brands in cannabis and what can we expect for the future of sports and cannabis?
