Photography is a time machine. It’s my birthday today — I’m 47. Crazy how time flies, isn’t it? I was looking through my old journals and found this picture the other day. My buddy Dan made it when I was nineteen and just getting into photography. Look at that kid! All fresh-faced and full of promise. Retro duds and buzz cut. I remember him. That Kurt Vonnegut quote seems particularly relevant these days — never in my wildest dreams did I imagine America would be like this when I was the kid in that picture. The future looked bright back then, and I expected an ongoing march of progress in these United States. Now, I’m not so sure. Still, 46 was a good year, productive and fulfilling. I’m going to take some time off to relax and refocus and will be back with something new soon. I want to thank you all again for reading the newsletter and sharing your thoughts with me week after week. You inspire me more than you know, and I genuinely appreciate our connection.
