Trump rants about 'scum' in another misguided holiday message |
|
| It came as a surprise to no-one that Donald Trump managed to make another federal holiday all about himself, going on a rant about people he doesn't like and using Memorial Day to attack "scum" and "USA-hating judges". The Republican, who fumed about "Radical Left Lunatics" and "WEAK and INEFFECTIVE judges" in his Easter message just last month, once again attacked the judiciary on Monday, when Americans are supposed to mourn and honour fallen US military personnel. In a post written entirely in all caps (we'll spare you the eye strain), Trump said: "Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds, who allowed 21,000,000 million people to illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane, through an open border that only an incompetent president would approve." Not only that, but Trump came in for fresh criticism after deciding Memorial Day speech at Arlington Cemetery on Monday was the best place to boast about the international sporting events taking place in America over the next few years – a move which has seen the Republican criticised on social media. | Welcome to the Indy100 newsletter | |

| The Last of Us Season 2 finale has proved divisive, with some claiming it to be disappointing and lacklustre and others proclaiming it as a triumph that completely clicked with them. Having played through The Last of Us Part II, indy100 sits in the second of those two camps, excited at the prospect of what's to come in Season 3 which was commissioned before Season 2 started airing. However, despite thinking this, indy100 understands why this wouldn't have clicked with those who have not played the game. There were a number of things criticised on social media after the episode aired. But the main thing that stuck out to indy100 in terms of why Season 2 of The Last of Us should have been adapted differently comes immediately at the end of the episode as it feels like it was stuck in no man's land. | Artificial intelligence has seen people turn to chatbots for dating advice, but now a new filter using this developing technology can conjure up your very own boyfriend in photos. The CapCut filter has been making rounds on TikTok as people share the interesting, albeit creepy, results. Each of the videos shows the creator posing in a solo photo before it transitions to the edited version where the AI boyfriend perfectly fits into the photo - although in terms of how realistic it is, certainly up for debate... For example, TikToker @koa.prive shared a selfie of herself, and then what happened when she used the AI filter as a man with matching glasses and a white shirt appeared beside her. "NAAA EWWWW," the creator said, making her thoughts on the effect crystal clear. While people in the comments section agreed and felt that the AI boyfriend looked too similar to the TikToker, and noted how scary he looks. | |

| Scientists have found a new, almost perfectly spherical object in space, prompting new questions about supernovas. The object, nicknamed Teleios "due to its symmetry" (it's taken from the Greek word for 'perfect'), was picked up on the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope, with details published in Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia earlier this month. The research paper from the study team, which lists Miroslav Filipovic of Western Sydney University as its lead author, reads: "Teleios is exclusively seen at radio-continuum frequencies. Interestingly, Teleios is not only almost perfectly symmetric, but it also has one of the lowest surface brightnesses discovered among Galactic SNRs." Galactic SNRs are galactic supernova remnants, by the way – basically, remains ejected during the explosion of a star. Pretty cool, huh? And it's not the only interesting discovery made by scientists recently, with academics also finding mysterious giant structures beneath the surface of Mars and that Earth's earliest oceans weren't actually blue.
