In her role as internal auditor, she investigated the prevalence of "ghost courses" in the education college and reported the instances she found as fraud to the federal government. Shortly after, she was fired.
Western appealed the jury's decision, which awarded Allen $3 million, but backed off the appeal last month.
I spoke with Antonia Allen and her husband Craig yesterday about how it feels to have such a drawn out legal battle come to a close. They told me they aren't the litigious type, but they decided to pursue this case because it was the "right thing to do."
The Allens said the money (and they won't receive the full amount after taxes and legal fees) doesn't alleviate the emotional distress.
