Chinese EV Maker BYD Overtakes Tesla in Fortune Global 500 Rankings

Stellantis NV reported a 13% slide in first-half 2025 revenue to €74.3 billion and logged a €2.3 billion net loss as U.S. tariffs—now forecast to cost €1.5 billion this year—hollowed out North American imports. Net revenue in the region plunged 23%, Europe also weakened, while South America bucked the trend with growth. CEO Antonio Filosa warned 2025 will be "tough" but noted improvements vs. late 2024 and vowed tough decisions to restore profitability, with over ten new models slated for H2 launches.

Foxconn is entering the North American electric-vehicle market, announcing plans to manufacture EVs domestically to serve U.S. and Canadian customers, according to Nikkei Asia. The Taiwanese electronics giant—best known for assembling iPhones—already owns an EV plant in Ohio and intends to bring models to market through a partnership with Mitsubishi.

Deputy General Manager Wu Junyi said Foxconn expects "strong growth" in 2025, noting that local production and consumption will be key to managing ongoing tariff pressures and fulfilling high hopes for its EV business.

Tesla is set to launch its second standalone showroom in New Delhi's Aerocity, spanning about 5,000 sq ft, following the July debut of its Bandra Kurla Complex experience centre in Mumbai. The Mumbai outlet started taking Model Y orders on July 15, with deliveries expected by late August or early Q3 2025.

Fortune released its annual Global 500 list this morning, reporting combined revenues of $41.7 trillion and profits of $2.98 trillion. American firms still dominate the top 10, with Walmart holding the No. 1 spot for a 12th year.

Chinese EV maker BYD surged 52 spots to No. 91, eclipsing Tesla at No. 106 and signalling its rising global reach. This leap sets BYD up to challenge Europe's Volkswagen, which ranks No. 12 on the list.

WeRide and Uber have extended their robotaxi service to Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands in a partnership with Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre, doubling ride volumes and covering roughly half of the emirate's urban core.

• The expanded network now spans Al Reem, Al Maryah, Yas and Saadiyat Islands, plus highway links to Zayed International Airport.


• Since its December 2024 debut, the fleet of WeRide GXR autonomous vehicles—each seating five and averaging rides over 6 km—has tripled in size.

Looking ahead, both companies aim to scale to hundreds of vehicles and enter Khalifa City, Masdar City and more downtown districts later this year, while WeRide kicks off fully driverless testing ahead of public access.
