Has Starmer lost his appetite on Europe?
| Sir Keir Starmer came to power on a promise to reset Britain's post-Brexit relationship with Europe. The prime minister rightly recognised the need to rebuild ties and forge a closer partnership with the bloc across the piece. He appeared to be making early progress, winning concessions from Brussels on issues such as the use of fast-track e-gates and the scrapping of some checks on plant and animal products. But since his much-hyped summit last month, officials have gone quiet on issues such as the hoped for youth mobility scheme and security and defence pact. After a last-minute concession, Brussels got its fill of British fish. Has Sir Keir lost his appetite for more from the EU? | |
