MPs will vote at 7pm on the Universal Credit and Personal Independent Payment Bill: the number of Labour MPs who will vote against the government is still in doubt, as speculation abounds that Keir Starmer will offer another concession at the last moment. We profile nine of the leading Labour rebels here. David Maddox, our political editor, thinks that the government will win the vote, but that the government's retreat, losing half the £5bn-a-year saving towards the end of this parliament, means that it has already "lost". I agree, and argue that Labour's rebel MPs have weakened Starmer – but that the greatest damage they have done is to themselves. |
