As coinciding with First Friday, Heather Dawn Sparks and the Femme Metal Collective have a pop-up exhibition, "Silhouettes & Sound," at the Whatcom Museum. Per its description, "The space will come alive with large-scale, intricately cut metal and paper sculptures," depicting everything from snakes to spiders, foxes and other fantastical imagery.
Speaking of fantastical: The annual Maple Falls Bigfoot Fest is back all day Saturday. The event features more than 60 local vendors, live music, food trucks and other activities to honor the PNW's most infamous cryptid. Another notable festival, the Acid Ball Psych Rock Music Fest, returns to Kulshan Trackside that same day.
Other outdoor entertainment options include Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth's al fresco performance of "As You Like It," plus a screening of "Dirty Dancing" on the Fairhaven Village Green (both on Saturday). But if you need a break from the heat, know that Lincoln Theater has multiple screenings of CatVideoFest, with ticket sales benefitting local felines in need.
