Apple is rethinking its foldable iPhone display strategy as it preps for a 2026 release, according to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter. Moving away from on-cell touch sensors, which can amplify the crease by trapping air between the panel and cover film, Cupertino has opted for in-cell technology, embedding touch electrodes into the display's TFT layer to yield a thinner panel and faster response.

Apple is exploring a throwback accessory for its ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company has "at least considered/tested" a Bumper-style case that protects the handset's edges without covering its back. The concept echoes the iPhone 4 Bumper introduced in 2010 after Antennagate.

Apple is also preparing a Smart Battery Case for the 17 Air, following its last such accessory for the iPhone 11 in 2019, to address the Air's reduced battery capacity.
