iFixit has downgraded the iPhone 14 series to a 4/10 repairability rating, the lowest among modern iPhones, after uncovering software-based barriers to component swaps. Although Apple redesigned the internal layout for easier access, its 'parts pairing' system ties new batteries, screens and cameras to proprietary authorization servers, often disabling functions or triggering warnings.
• Initial 7/10 score backtracked once software locks emerged
• Rear glass on Pro models remains costly and challenging to replace
• Newer iPhone 15 and 16 models rebound to 7/10 with modular designs and standard fasteners
