I have some news. With a new season about to kick off, we're launching not one but two new emails. From Friday, 8 August, Reading The Game becomes Inside Football, and it will arrive in your inbox every Monday and Friday.
The format will shift slightly. At The Independent, we're always exploring fresh ways to report the news, while also deepening our connection with our loyal readers – something as crucial in modern football as anything else.
The fixture calendar is relentless, and the news cycle feels nonstop – spanning everything from results and matches to tactics, competitions, transfers, politics, global expansion, and even the geopolitics and greater forces now reshaping how the very sport is played.
In short, there's a lot to keep up with – and to make sense of. That's why the newsletter is evolving. Like Reading The Game, Inside Football will still deliver insight, opinion, analysis, and the under-the-radar details you love, but on a much greater scale.
Think of Inside Football as the game's answer to Popbitch, packed with snippets of behind-the-scenes gossip and updates from my reporting trips across the globe – plus the regular brainteaser quiz to test your knowledge.
On Mondays, you'll get a comprehensive debrief of the weekend's action, including a column reflecting on what really mattered in the Premier League.
Fridays will offer further insights, with reporting and analysis from inside the game, usually getting into the real story behind a big football theme.
