The true size of Africa

Think of a map of the world. The image you'll picture is likely to be the Mercator map, which has long been the standard map used for navigation and education. But this map stretches land masses farther from the equator, making several northern nations look comparable in size to Africa when they are in fact smaller by land area.

Now many on the continent are calling for a map that accurately represents the relative sizes of countries.
