💗 A Personal Note on Breast Cancer Awareness

I think about my mom every single day. Not in passing, but in the kind of way where she's stitched into everything: my choices, my habits, my parenting, even the way I laugh. She was my best friend, my confidante, the person I could pour my heart out to and know I was safe. She had this gentle way of listening, mixed with a strength that came from a lifetime of hardship.

My mom lived through multiple wars, raised her family through stress and scarcity, and carried more than her share of burdens. But she never complained. She was brave and resilient, always putting others first. When my dad got sick, she devoted herself completely to caring for him, even as she ignored her own health. That's who she was: selfless to the very end.

In 2007, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. The news knocked the wind out of us. She went into remission for a while, and I let myself believe we had beaten it. But the cancer came back. For years, she fought with a grace and courage that still leaves me in awe. In 2019, she passed away.

What's hardest is knowing she noticed something was wrong long before she went to the doctor. She was afraid, and she put herself last. If she had gone earlier, things might have turned out differently.

That's why I need to say this to you: please don't wait. Don't dismiss the signs. Don't put yourself at the bottom of the list. Prevention and early detection matter. Even if you have no family history, breast cancer can still happen.

Here are steps worth weaving into your yearly routine:

  • Monthly self-exams: Get familiar with how your breasts normally feel so you notice changes early.

  • Annual clinical breast exams: A doctor's check can catch what you might miss.

  • Mammograms: Recommended yearly for women 40+, or earlier if you're high risk.

  • Genetic testing and risk assessments: Even without family history, it's worth asking your doctor if testing makes sense for you. You can also use the Tyrer-Cuzick Risk Assessment Calculator, which is completely free.

  • Lifestyle habits: Prioritize sleep, movement, stress management, and limiting alcohol, all of which can support breast health.

If you're reading this and you're in treatment, recovering, or loving someone through this journey, you're not alone. There are communities and resources that can walk with you:

My mom was the bravest person I've ever known. She endured more than most but did it with love. And even though she isn't here in person, she is with me always—in my heart, in my memories, and the way I try to live.

Sharing her story is my way of honoring her. And maybe, if even one person books that doctor's appointment or reminds a friend to check in, then her courage continues to ripple outwards.

There is progress. There is support. And there is always hope 💗.

TASK MANAGEMENT

A cartoon woman in a red top and blue pants proudly checks off a towering stack of completed to-do items, all with yellow checkmarks, set against a purple background.

How to Finally Get Your Tasks Under Control (and Prep Like a Pro for the Week Ahead)

There's a special kind of Sunday anxiety that hits when your to-do list looks like a CVS receipt and Monday's already looming.

You tell yourself this week will be different — that you'll plan ahead, stay on top of it all, and actually make space to breathe. And then… it all piles up again.

Getting your week under control is about setting yourself up to feel calm, clear, and in charge.

Start here 👇

🧠 1. Brain-dump everything.

Get it all out—work, errands, reminders, ideas. Then organize it somewhere visual. Tools like monday.com turn messy lists into color-coded clarity so you can see what really needs attention. New to monday.com? The Assist's monday.com Guide walks you through layouts and automations that save serious time.

🎯 2. Group by focus, not urgency.

Not everything loud is important. Sort tasks into focus areas like deep work, quick wins, or personal stuff. Smartsheet helps you filter and tag tasks so your real priorities rise to the top.

3. Give every task a home.

Your brain loves certainty. Use monday.com for daily top-threes and Smartsheet for what's next. Together, they create a clear flow instead of a flood.

💡 4. Let your tools do the heavy lifting.

Both platforms make it easy to automate reminders, track progress, and share updates; no "just checking in" messages needed.

🌿 5. End your week intentionally.

Before logging off Friday, close loops, move tasks forward, and jot down what you actually accomplished.

🧠 Start your week with structure. End it with peace of mind.

EXPENSE MANAGEMENT

Stop Letting Small Expenses Drain Big Energy

You know that mild panic when your card statement hits and you can't remember what half those charges were?

Yeah…same.

Managing expenses shouldn't feel like detective work. Whether you're running a business or managing your own budget, the goal isn't perfection; it's awareness.

Here's how to get there:

💸 Start with visibility.

You can't fix what you can't see. Use a tool like Xero to automatically pull in transactions, categorize spending, and surface trends before they spiral. Its dashboards make it easy to see where your money's going—and where it shouldn't.

🧾 Make expense management effortless.

If you manage a team, Rippling makes reimbursement painless. Employees snap a photo of a receipt, it auto-matches to the right policy, and reimbursements run automatically. No lost forms, no awkward follow-ups.

📊 Turn tracking into clarity.

Once you've got the basics automated, you'll start spotting patterns—subscriptions no one uses, late fees that shouldn't exist, or budget leaks hiding in plain sight.

The payoff? Fewer end-of-month surprises, cleaner books, and total confidence in where your money's going.

Meet Sookie

Adopting Sookie was the best decision I've made in years! She's a supermutt shaped like a dachshund with surprisingly strong opinions about random things. She puts herself to bed in a huff when I stay up too late and howls at me conversationally when she disagrees with my plans.

In this photo, she's attending a party in full glam!  You can find her on Instagram at @sookie_in_la
