Trump to Denmark: 'You'll find out'

| | Trump provokes Europe as D.C. runs damage control | |
| Donald Trump's efforts to push Denmark into giving in and ceding the territory of Greenland to the U.S. continued on Tuesday. The president himself appeared in the White House briefing room to take questions on the issue as he prepares for an address to the World Economic Forum in Davos this week. Asked how far he'd go to acquire Greenland for the U.S., and whether it meant military force, Trump responded only: "You'll find out." The response from Europe so far has been anger and a clear sense that many countries and their leaders see European relationships with the U.S. as permanently changed for the worse. A delegation of U.S. lawmakers traveled to Copenhagen and then Davos this week as Speaker Mike Johnson, possibly Trump's main operative in Congress, tried to smooth things over with an address to the U.K. Parliament. But he and others in Congress are confronted with a tough reality: There's not a whole lot the Legislative Branch can do to stop the president from burning these relationships to the ground. At least, not as long as the two GOP majorities remain in the grip of the White House. Read more here: |
