Country music icon and actor, Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday after a "brief battle with cancer", her reps announced.

 

The Tennessee singer-songwriter is best known for her hits '9 to 5', 'Islands in the Stream', ''Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You', (writing the last two hit songs in a single day, or at least a few days apart), selling more than 100 million records worldwide and winning 11 Grammys.

 

Her most notable acting roles include 9 to 5 (1980), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), Rhinestone (1984) and Steel Magnolias (1989), Wild Texas Wind (1991), and Hannah Montana (2006).

 

Parton's death comes over a year after the death of her husband Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 at age 82, the pair were married for nearly 59 years.

 

Beyond her musical impact, Parton will also be remembered for her philanthropy work, donating hundreds of millions of dollars to charity over her lifetime via her The Dollywood Foundation and her childhood literacy program, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library as well as funding what would lead to the Moderna coronavirus vaccine and being a staunch ally for the LBGTQ+ community.

 

Her influence in the entertainment world is clear to see with touching tributes from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Jane Fonda, Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Eminem, Celine Dion, Billy Ray Cyrus (Parton is godmother to his daughter Miley Cyrus) and Oprah Winfrey.

 

US president Donald Trump paid tribute to Parton on Truth Social as “one of the greatest Country singers." He added, "In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The world loves you."

 

With her big bleach blonde hair, long acrylic nails, and wearing bedazzled bold clothes, Parton was a camp icon who was unapologetically herself, and known for her self-aware wit, she famously said: "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."

 

As for her legacy, Parton had this to say: "I want to be remembered as a good person, a person that tried to do a good job to make the most of every good thing I was given ... all my talent."

US president Donald Trump was mocked after he had to be shown how to hold a flag and then proceeded to wave it in a strange way.

 

On Sunday, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar race was brought to the streets of Washington DC in the final part of summer events to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States.

 

For the second time in one week, Trump was joined there by his wife Melania Trump after weeks of absence from the public. Before the race began, they drove a lap of the street track in Trump’s presidential limousine known as The Beast.

 

Getting the race underway, footage has emerged of Trump having to be shown where the handle of the green flag was by his wife and another event staffer, before he proceeded to wave it in the oddest way you’ve ever seen.

 

“Lmao they had to tell him which way to hold the green flag,” someone mocked.

 

Another asked: “WHAT IN THE AF? Is this real?”

 

Meanwhile, footage at the same event shared online appears to show the presidential couple embroiled in a tense conversation while seated to watch the race.

 

In the clip, Melania can be seen talking into her husband’s ear. When Trump pulled away, her facial expression and body language appeared fairly hostile.

 

“This conversation between President Trump and Melania Trump actually seemed to start out somewhat positive a few minutes before this clip starts but as you can see, it didn’t end that way,” the original poster of the clip claimed.

 

Someone else suggested: “That arm cross is epic p**sed off wife s*** right there.”

Ask Heated Rivalry actor Connor Storrie and Manchester City footballer Erling Haaland as both had the internet losing it when they displayed their new shaved look.

 

Storrie, known for his signature curls, was spotted eating at a restaurant with co-star Christina Chang where his shaved head was clear to see. It comes as filming for Heated Rivalry season two is underway, leading fans to wonder if his character Ilya Rozanov will sport the look in the show.

 

Haaland known for his long blonde locks, he shared a snippet from his latest YouTube video to reveal his hair transformation, and video calling manager Pep Guardiola, teammate Jack Grealish, ex-footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović, as well as singer and Man City fan Noel Gallagher to get their reactions.

 

"Erling Haaland AND Connor Storrie both cut all of their hair off… please respect my privacy at this difficult time," one person posted.

A series of what appear to be GTA 6 leaks show no signs of stopping any time soon as the leaker has posted a poll asking people what they want to see next with a clear winner out in front.
