We're a few weeks into publishing our new weekly Western Sports Notebook, reported and written by veteran reporter Meri-Jo Borzilleri.

It's part of our efforts this season to broaden our coverage of Western. The school fields some of the top women's teams in the country every year, with a strong tradition that predates the current wave of interest in women's athletics.

In the first two weeks, Meri-Jo has written about new rowing coach Courtney Moeller, both women's and men's soccer teams, and a "5 Things to Know" preview of the championship cross country teams ahead of the season start. She also said to keep an eye on the young volleyball team, expected to do well.

Each week, she highlights best bets for games and matches, and shares tidbits about athletes, coaches and standings.
