Every month or so, I like to go on a solo date. Most of the time, I see a movie at the Pickford Film Center, ticket in one hand, popcorn dusted with seasoning salt and a beer in the other. 

To me, a movie at the Pickford means sitting in the dark by myself with a few fellow humans and watching something that may not have traditionally made it to another movie theater.

That's why I'm so excited to see the news from CDN lifestyle editor Cocoa Laney that the Pickford on Grand will open to the public on Friday, Aug. 1.

The new space will offer two 60-seat theaters plus a smaller "jewel box" 20-seat theater. Across its two locations, the Pickford will have five screens, which means more offerings, more showtimes and more opportunities for movie buffs and their friends to see new movies.
