More than three years ago, a man named David Babcock was shot by a Sedro-Woolley police officer. He had been followed by police from three different jurisdictions for more than 20 miles after they suspected he was driving a car with stolen plates.
When Sedro-Woolley police officers placed spike strips on the road to puncture his tires, Babcock drove over a curb to avoid them. An officer, who was briefly in Babcock's path, fired nine bullets.
One struck Babcock in the back of his head.
Two years ago, former CDN reporter Ralph Schwartz published a lengthy investigation on the incident, diving deep into the Skagit and Island County Multiple Agency Response Team's report into the shooting, which cleared the officer involved of wrongdoing.
It's been a complex process for the family; David Babcock's widow told me yesterday. "Your soul cannot rest," Regina Babcock said. "It's been years now, and there are moments that are just a little thing, and I still just start crying."
