Cascadia Daily News is participating in Giving Tuesday — the annual day of generosity the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to support our newsroom in 2026.
Bree Zender and I have been working behind the scenes on fundraising efforts for CDN. People have asked why a for-profit organization needs to fundraise. There are two main reasons.
CDN is required to raise funds for our Report for America public health/health care reporter, Owen Racer. These donations help support Owen's reporting, and our communities are stronger for it. You can find Owen's work here.
And while CDN is for-profit and owned by a Whatcom County native, we are still a fairly young news organization working toward becoming a self-sustaining enterprise. By shifting toward a community-powered revenue model, the cost of operating an award-winning newsroom doesn't fall to one person, subscriber or advertiser. It becomes a community investment.
If you'd like to support your local newsroom during Giving Tuesday, you can donate here. Any amount will help us reach our goal!
