It doesn't take a genius to know you've got to hit up IngenuityFest this weekend. Why it matters: Cleveland's shape-shifting arts and tech festival is unlike any other. It's delighted and surprised attendees since launching in 2005 and quickly establishing itself as a regional flagship. State of play: Ingenuity was a traveling showcase for years, occupying some of the city's most unusual and visually striking locations. 🪁 The latest: The theme for this year's three-day extravaganza is "Era of Ascent" and is dedicated to flight in all its forms. - Expect musical and dance performances, civic dialogue, comedy acts, immersive exhibits, family activities and an array of local food and beverage vendors.
Zoom in: The festival program map teases the following locations and features, to give you an idea: - Rock Wall, Lunar Landing, Ideation Station, Enchanted Forest, Flutterland, Gallery of Kites and something called Haute Fashion on the High Seas.
🎸 What they're playing: The Friday night headliner (9:45pm on the Lakeview Stage) is Minnesota indie-rock group Bad Bad Hats. Stop by: The festival runs 6pm-1am Friday, 1pm-1am Saturday and 1-6pm Sunday. - All tickets are "weekend passes" and start at $15. Children under 13 are admitted free.

We now know who will be at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Driving the news: The Rock Hall this week unveiled its star-studded lineup for the Oct. 19 inductions at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. State of play: Inductees Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang and Dionne Warwick will all perform. - The list of guest presenters includes Chuck D, Dr. Dre, Demi Lovato, James Taylor, Roger Daltrey, Sammy Hagar, The Roots, Slash and more.
The big picture: Here are five additional things we think will happen at the ceremony: 🪩 Dua Lipa opens the show The intrigue: The first thing the Rock Hall did after announcing this year's lineup was reveal pop star Dua Lipa will perform in honor of Cher. 🤠 Rock Hall heads to Music Row The intrigue: There will be a huge country presence at the ceremony with Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Mac McAnally and Jelly Roll all listed as special guests. - Rock Hall Foundation chairman John Sykes has mentioned Nashville as a potential future ceremony location, so don't be surprised if there's an announcement made.
🚫 Tribe won't kick it The intrigue: The only active inductee not listed as a performer is A Tribe Called Quest. The hip-hop group looks like this year's "I don't really care about the Rock Hall" honoree. - Yes, but: Busta Rhymes will be on hand to honor the group and perhaps perform his verses on Tribe classics like "Scenario" and "Oh My God."

4. 🙏 No Derrick Rose, thank YOU |

NBA veteran Derrick Rose announced his retirement from professional hoops yesterday, publishing thank-you notes in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and other cities from his lengthy career. Why it matters: We appreciate the gesture, circumstances notwithstanding! The circumstances: Rose is the youngest MVP in league history and played 723 total games ... just 16 of which were in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform. Between the lines: The letter was not addressed to Cleveland fans specifically — that would've been overkill — but to the sport of basketball. - The full-paged advertisement was published on page A3 of Thursday's paper, styled as a love letter on a red background.
What he said: "Thank you, my first love..." his message began. - "You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain."
What we're wondering: We've seen multiple pro athletes take out ads in the PD after meaningful careers in Cleveland — C.C. Sabathia, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, etc. — but are there are any to do it who've had so fleeting a stint here? |

5. 🍽️ Dinner + a show: Ghosts and goblins |

'Tis the season for eerie things and the Cleveland Museum of Art is capitalizing with an exhibit from Eastern culture. The intrigue: "Demons, Ghosts and Goblins in Chinese Art" opened earlier this month and runs through Jan. 20 in the museum's Focus Gallery. - It features 20 paintings and sculptures of creatures that both attract and ward off evil spirits, as well as the stories behind them.
Between the lines: The collection of colorful, Chinese glass "Tomb Guardians" is hard to look away from. If you go: The exhibit is included with CMA's free admission. Stop by: Just a nine-minute drive from the museum is one of Cleveland's best Chinese restaurants — LJ Shanghai on Superior Avenue. - The AsiaTown spot is known for its soup dumplings.
