Last Wednesday, Bellingham's new Recovery Cafe filled with life as patrons and supporters trickled in to celebrate the soft opening of the space.

It's a lovely concept, part of a national network started in Seattle: People in recovery, or close to those in recovery, can come to the cafe for a hot meal, a coffee and connection with other people also facing addiction of any kind.

The model has worked for people across the country, including Sharayah Lane, the executive director of Recovery Cafe Bellingham. She found solace in Recovery Cafe Seattle when she was going through her own recovery from an alcohol addiction years ago.
