You've seen them everywhere—and have probably even dodged a couple while crossing Market Street in San Francisco or Fifth Avenue in New York. Electric bikes have become a de rigueur mode of transportation for the office-going set, affording even those who routinely skip leg day at the gym the ability to sail through SoMa without breaking a sweat. Max Mautner, a software engineer from San Mateo, Calif., who works at Netflix, recently converted from commuting by car to e-biking to work. "I had tried doing it on a regular bike and got so sweaty because my commute has, like, 500 feet of elevation gain," said Mautner. Now, with an e-bike, the commute isn't as fatiguing, and he doesn't need to carry a change of clothes. |
