The Science of Dank
Wed, Dec. 4 • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Iain "Dr. Dank" Oswald will present about the white paper "The Science of Dank." Attendees will learn about volatile sulfur compounds that impact the cannabis plant's dank, skunky and gas aromas beyond terpene profiles.
The Science of Exotic
Thurs, Dec. 5 • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
T.J. Martin and Iain "Dr. Dank" Oswald will discuss the classification of flavorants in cannabis. Learn about dank sulfuric compounds (cannasulfurs) as a category of flavorants and hear how the speakers have used their GCxGC system to identify aroma-enhancing compounds beyond terpenes including the two classes of cannasulfurs (prenylated for gas, tropicanna for dank citrus), musky indoles and sweetness-driving esters, among others.
The Case for Chemohunting
Friday, Dec. 6 • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Twinkle Paryani will share the methods she employed while aiming to prove that aroma variation – even among phenotypes – is driven primarily by flavorants. In the process, she discovered the compounds most responsible for cheese aromas in cannabis cultivars, plus a new addition to the tropicannasulfur class! This talk will cap off scientific discussions highlighting the need to shift testing methods toward more advanced processes that can inform selective breeding practices and promote greater cannabis aroma diversity.
