For weeks, Elon Musk has warned voters, as he campaigns for Donald Trump, about the dire consequences of a Kamala Harris administration—for America, civilization and him personally. "If he loses, I'm fucked," Musk joked in an interview last month with Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host. "How long do you think my prison sentence is going to be?" Likewise, Musk has said SpaceX—the rocket company he founded and leads—could be in jeopardy from a Harris victory in this Tuesday's presidential election. "Trump must win or this will get more insane than you can imagine," Musk wrote on X on Oct. 13, in response to another post about a California commission's vote against a SpaceX plan to increase the number of launches it makes from a military base in the state. Let's take a deep breath and consider another scenario: Musk and his companies will do just fine if Harris wins. That's the conclusion of business, political and academic figures on both sides of the political spectrum whom we surveyed during these final, frenzied days before the election. |
