New data reveals significant growth in cannabis sales during key shopping days, particularly Green Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) and the entire holiday week in general.
According to Jane Technologies, sales on Green Wednesday 2023 were 90.5% higher than the previous three Wednesdays.
This surge in sales also marked an 18.1% increase over Green Wednesday 2022.
Even when adjusting for growth in the marijuana market, Jane estimates sales were still up by 11.4% year-over-year, highlighting how consumer demand for cannabis products on this day continues to rise.
Shoppers tend to stock up before traveling for the long holiday weekend, and Green Wednesday has become an essential part of their purchasing habits.
Green Wednesday on its own does not tell the whole story, however.
The entirety of Thanksgiving week, including Black Friday, has become a booming time for cannabis retail sales across the country. Read story >

The government of Ontario, Canada, pledged $31 million to an agency responsible for fighting the illicit cannabis market in the province.
The $31 million investment for the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Teams (PJFCET) would be made over three years, according to Ontario's 2024 budget papers.
The government said the money would allow the PJFCET to "respond to the challenge of illegal online operators and crack down further on the production, sale and distribution of illegal cannabis in the online and offline space."
The investment follows a motion passed by the Toronto City Council earlier this year asking the province to review the Provincial Cannabis Control Act, 2017 "to ensure the effective regulations and enforcement of cannabis-related matters" in Ontario. Read story >
Is Republican control of the U.S. government better for marijuana reform than a Democrat-led administration, and have statewide adult-use cannabis legalization efforts simply maxed out?
After the GOP's decisive nationwide victory this week sent former President Donald Trump back to the White House - and delivered control of the Senate to Republicans - the $32 billion U.S. legal marijuana industry is about to find out.
Three decisive defeats for adult-use legalization on Election Day mean reform efforts are likely to shift away from individual states and toward Washington, D.C., where Democratic lawmakers have traditionally been more consistent backers of marijuana bills.
There, advocates will have to present a newly united front if they hope to win over conservative lawmakers.
"This is not the ideal situation - and certainly not what we were hoping for - but we are in the position that we are going to be able to get some stuff done next year," said David Culver, the director of government affairs at the U.S. Cannabis Council, a D.C.-based lobbying group. Read story >
The United Kingdom should increase the amount of THC allowed in hemp to 0.3%, a government-appointed advisory panel has recommended.
The U.K.'s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs said in a memo that "the potential benefits" of raising the country's THC limit from 0.2% "outweigh an increased risk of harms."
Doing so would bring the U.K. in line with the United States and European Union, which follow a 0.3% limit.
It would also "provide growers with access to substantially more hemp varieties," including those grown in Europe, and could potentially aid British hemp farmers' ability to export their crop to other markets, the panel found. Read story >
