Last night and this morning, our newsroom was spread across Whatcom and Skagit counties, speaking with people about the presidential election. Rather than do traditional ballot box coverage, we went to places where the election was playing out in the background: bars, a truck stop, a book club and a grocery store to name a few. The hours we spent running around the area were a welcome distraction from constantly checking our phones for results.
The live blog coverage idea was the brainchild of our executive editor Ron Judd, who tasked us with covering a moment in history. And historic it was: Americans elected a former president who is a felon and stands to potentially remake the country as it lurches further to the right.
We spoke with a variety of people, from people who backed President-elect Donald Trump to those who supported Vice President Kamala Harris. Some folks were politically engaged, others had chosen to stay out of it. You can read more of our "Turning Point" coverage here.
