It was my first time out in public since I'd lost my hair. It was a simple brunch date with my husband and two young daughters and an attempt to forget that I was a thirty-year-old, breast-cancer patient. Autumn in England can be quite chilly, so despite my determination to be the most boss bald gal around, I found myself needing to cover my head quite often. Hats and beanies were my go-to, but they often made an outfit appear dressed-down. Feeling really well after the latest round of chemo, I wanted to look as good as I felt. The local cancer center where I sought treatment provided wonderful courses on everything cancer-related, and I felt particularly empowered after a recent scarf-tying class, so I decided that I would wear one for this special outing.
