Nerdy fans of Star Trek might remember a scene from the original series: Captain Kirk, trying to gain the upper hand in a game of cards, invents the game "fizzbin." Its complex rules change whenever Kirk opens his mouth, confusing the other players.

You'd have to forgive this business nerd for thinking of "fizzbin" while I was trying to understand the latest global tariffs announced by the Trump administration.

A dizzying array of percentages, products, and countries are covered.

As tariffs are a tax paid by importing U.S. businesses and ultimately consumers, it seems inevitable that Northwest Washington businesses will be affected beyond the steel and aluminum tariffs already in place.
