Meet the women who bring you all things Independent...
I feel so grateful and privileged to work with such truly great, truly independent women that I thought they deserved an introduction – and a shout-out, so you get to know who's behind the stories you're reading each week.
From our brave and ruthless senior reporters (Tara Cobham, Holly Evans and Amy-Clare Martin, to name just a few) to our news editors Natalie Crockett and Sian Elvin, to our health correspondent Rebecca Thomas, who this week revealed exclusively that British care homes are under threat, as the government's crackdown on migration has blocked 100,000 workers who are needed to care for NHS patients.
When she's not reporting from the frontline, our chief international correspondent and documentary maker Bel Trew – who's won just about every award going – joins us in the newsroom, which is brimming with female talent.
Over on features, we have Zoë Beaty unpicking those water-cooler moments everyone is talking about, such as the 'rise of the polygamous worker'; senior features writer Helen Coffey making us laugh and cry on a daily basis (her interview with the author Emma Jane Unsworth is my pick of the week); Ellie Muir gamely taking on the Gen Z vs millennial culture wars and Hannah Ewens putting herself through bizarre encounters such as 'family constellations sessions', which I'd never even heard of before today.
Hannah Twiggs gives us the rundown of the best food and drink to try, make and buy (her piece this week on the new £25-a-week dinner party will warm your heart); while Annabel Grossman tells us where we should (and shouldn't) be holidaying (her trip to the Bluegrass state of Kentucky is surprisingly enticing). Over on our video desk, next to the Indy TV and podcast studios, are the multi-talented Hebe Campbell, Eliza Ketcher (who recently starred in her first musical, 42nd Street – she somehow also made time to interview 'You' star Penn Badgley) and Kate Gill – who keeps us all calm and smiling.
Behind the scenes, there are some top women making The Independent's coverage happen: our UK editor Chloe Hubbard, assistant editor (and head of international news) Caroline Gammell, assistant editor (and Queen of Premium) Vicki Harper, our audience editors Lauren MacDougall, Maja Anushka – who wrote this hilarious ode to offline dating, while keeping us up on the latest trends – and Rosie Slater.
Sarah Harvey decides which stories fill your homepage, while Olivia Kerley and Rosalyn Jeffery organise... well, everything – especially cake and all of the events (such as our International Women's Day photoshoot) that make Indy HQ so special.
We have some incredible freelancers keeping us afloat, too – from Voices desk editors Kat Brown (do read her piece on Mark Zuckerberg's 'cure for loneliness') and Emma Clarke, to our regular contributors: our wine columnist Rosamund Hall (who writes this week on how to avoid being cheated with cheap wine) and our money coach Talia Loderick; the British Society of Magazine Editors 2025 award-nominated lifestyle writer Olivia Petter and the laugh-out-loud funny Charlotte Cripps, plus Frieda Hughes – yes, the daughter of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes – who writes an exclusive poem for us every Friday.
Then, there's our music supremo Roisin O'Connor (check out her latest Glasto gossip here), our culture commissioning editor Annabel Nugent, our TV editor Ellie Harrison (whose interview with The White Lotus star Natasha Rothwell was a top read in Feb) and our beloved arts editor Jessie Thompson, who's currently on maternity leave - and so many other fantastic, multi-talented women I could mention.
I didn't mean to write an ode to my colleagues, but they're the women who make the Indy what it is – and I highly recommend you check out their work. Your week will be all the better for it.
