While Holi is most commonly celebrated in India, this Saturday is the first-ever Bellingham Holi Festival at Boulevard Park. Participants are invited to throw colorful powders at each other in "a celebration of color and liveliness." Remember to wear a white shirt and be prepared to get a little messy.

On Sunday, the Bellingham Festival of Music kicks off with its "Russian Masters" program featuring Macedonian classical pianist Simon Trpčeski.

If you think classical music is boring, think again: Erika Block, BFM's executive director, told me how "every concert is crazy — like, standing ovations, people are screaming and going wild."

There's also a lot going on in the theater scene this weekend, including the start of Fairhaven Summer Repertory Theatre at the FireHouse Arts and Events Center. "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" is running at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, whereas "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is at the Lincoln in Mount Vernon.

Other noteworthy events include Ferndale's spirits, beer and wine walk, Downtown Distilled, tomorrow evening. That Devil Music — which CDN music columnist Jesse Stanton recently covered in his bi-weekly column— begins tonight at the Lookout Arts Quarry. And in the vein of outdoor recreation, the Bellingham Bike Swap is back this Sunday at Boundary Bay Brewery.
