Helloooooooooo everybody!
It is Glastonbury weekend, meaning I'm on liveblogging duty from this afternoon through to Sunday evening, by which point I should be hallucinating from lack of sleep, hooray! We have an absolutely fantastic team of writers on site this year (as always), including Louis Chilton, Hannah Ewens, Adam White, Kate Solomon and Mark Beaumont - all bringing you reviews of some of the best and biggest performances, as well as news and goss from Worthy Farm. Feel free to send me your thoughts, whether you're at the festival or watching a livestream from the comfort of your own sofa.
This might be one of the busiest summers in some time. Obviously we've got the Oasis reunion coming up next week, and the Black Sabbath farewell show. There's the huge BST Festival run including Sabrina Carpenter's two headline spots, and All Points East, and Drake doing three nights at Wireless. Annabel's off the see the brilliant Deftones at Crystal Palace Park on Sunday which should be bloody epic...
The latest episode of Roisin O'Connor's Good Vibrations is out NOW starring the wonderful Iwan Rheon, who you probably know from shows like Game of Thrones, Misfits and Riviera. He's about to release his second album, I Just Wish I'd Never Gone to Space, and we had a lovely chat about the inspirations and influences behind his new music, as well as the Welsh language, his amazing work in TV and film, and why he's keen to do a spot of comedy in between all his "weirdo" characters.
New music I love this week: Lewis Capaldi is BACK, baby! With some of his most vulnerable songwriting, too, on the single "Survive" that grapples with feelings of self-doubt, depression, hope and determination. No I'm not crying, YOU'RE CRYING. Come on, our lad.
Other bits: A dark and buzzy new Kneecap number "The Recap" ahead of their Glastonbury performance this weekend, that is going to go OFF during their set. A very different vibe from Laufey with "Lover Girl", I just wish this had been released when I was frolicking around Paris because it is so that vibe. I guess I'll have to let it soundtrack my week at Montreux Jazz Festival instead, it's a hard life innit. Yet another vibe switch: "Home" from Mac DeMarco is the kind of glum I like, perfect for sitting on a bench in the drizzling rain and thinking sad thoughts. Let's pivot again, to the new dance outfit GLAMMA and their debut release "REGRET", which sounds like a floor-filler if I've ever heard one.
MORE bits: "Car" by Rotel Otis, "Diagnoses" by Kae Tempest, "Grandma Calls the Boy Bad News" by RAYE from the F1 movie soundtrack, "Moth Song" from Folk Bitch Trio (I REALLY like this band), "Descartes" from SPRINTS (ditto), and "The Story of Her" from Caity Baser (also coming with me to Montreux, have a listen and you'll get it). And I'm obsessed with "Born in a Cage" from the magnificent Patty Griffin, it is absolutely spellbinding - from the tenderly picked guitar notes to her voice, so delicate it's like a feather suspended in the air.
That's it from me for now - if you're at Glastonbury, have an absolute ball this weekend, and if you're not, have a splendid one regardless!
