Take Radical Ownership of Your Career Visibility (in 90 Days) |
|
|
Today is Women's Equality Day—a reminder that progress in the workplace doesn't happen by accident.
Women don't have a confidence problem. That label has been used as a convenient excuse, telling us to "fix" ourselves instead of addressing the systems that hold us back.
After nearly a decade coaching high-performing women, I've seen the real issue: perception. The way we're seen at work often doesn't match the value we deliver or the roles we're ready to step into. And if you're not actively shaping that perception, your career can stall.
With leadership pipelines narrowing and DEI efforts being scaled back, waiting for visibility isn't an option. We have to create it. Call it career architecture: intentionally shaping how we're perceived, advocating for ourselves, and building the opportunities we deserve.
Here's how to shift your career story in the next 90 days: Gather data. Ask managers, peers, and mentors how they see your strengths, and what they think you want next. Spot the misalignments. If people assume you're headed somewhere you're not, redirect. Showcase skills and build relationships that point to your real goals. Craft your new story. Write the narrative that frames you for your next role. (I've built a system for this—watch my free training to see the pieces you need.) Build your hype team. Find allies, mentors, and sponsors who will carry your story into rooms you can't yet reach.
The personal has always been political. In 2025, the professional is too. On this Women's Equality Day, don't shrink your ambition. Claim your space. |

Micromanaged, Drained, and Over It |
|
|
"I'm dealing with a male boss stuck in a 70s style of management…micromanages, disrespects boundaries. I'm angry, tired, and want to work around him." — Ana
Raise your hand if you've ever felt like you're parenting your boss instead of being led 🙋🏻♀️.
Outdated leadership doesn't just stall progress, it chips away at your peace. And when it comes with constant micromanaging and ignored boundaries, it's more frustrating and draining.
One survey found that 75% of employees would consider quitting because of a micromanaging boss. Eek.
And while you may not be able to change your boss, you can protect your energy and shift the power dynamic in your favor.
📊 Start managing up with structure
Don't wait for your boss to ask how things are going. Send short weekly updates that outline what's done, what's next, and what's blocked. It keeps them informed and gets you ahead of micromanagement. This approach to managing up helps you build trust and create space without having to fight for it.
🧱 Reinforce boundaries with calm consistency
When the pings come after hours, don't react. Reset. Reply the next workday with something like, "Looping back during work hours. Here's what I recommend." Neutral, professional phrasing keeps things steady and still makes your boundaries clear.
📁 Start a private log
Keep a record of recurring issues, crossed lines, or inappropriate tone. If it ever needs to go to HR, you'll have patterns, not just feelings.
🔭 Zoom out and reconnect to your values
Toxic leadership can make you forget what you actually want from your career. Take a few minutes to step back and realign with what matters to you (autonomy, collaboration, recognition, purpose, etc.). This work values matcher can help you sort out what to prioritize as you figure out your next move, whether that means staying, shifting, or leaving. |

"If you wish to lead a full life, then it's important to understand the power of boundaries. Boundaries establish the tone of all your relationships, and when you fail to establish real boundaries in your life, you will inevitably fall prey to burnout, anxiety, and depression." |
