Apple Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Apple Cinemas, a New England–based theater chain, accusing it of trademark infringement as it expands to 14 locations. According to a Verge report, Apple claims the cinema's name is designed to "capitalize on the highly-regarded Apple brand" and risks confusing consumers.
Apple Cinemas responded that it's a long-established independent chain with no affiliation to Apple Inc., arguing its branding is distinct and consumer confusion is "unfounded."
