I wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that I’m in South Africa until September 1.

This trip is equal parts reset, recharge, and creative inspiration.

Sometimes as photographers, stepping outside of our usual environment is the only way to return sharper and more focused.

Although I’m not from here, my kids are half South African, their mom is from Cape Town. She came to Canada in 1996 when she was 16. I met her back in 2003.

And of course Géran, my operations manager lives here and over the last 12 months, he has helped me turn The Carty Method into what you see it as today.

I’m here with Cheryl, the love of my life and building this life of ours.

While I’m here, my regular live shows on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays are on ice. That means no Fundamentals Photo Reviews, no Pro Assignment Reviews, and no Carty Method Podcast until I return. I want to be transparent about that so you know exactly what to expect.

That said, I’m not disappearing. I’ll still be posting and, as always, my Saturday blog will continue to drop. You’ll still get valuable content and updates from me — just not the live shows until I’m back.

Trips like this always give me fresh perspective and new stories, and I’ll be bringing all of that back with me in September. My goal is to come back with even more energy and even sharper tools to help you move forward as a working professional photographer.

So stay tuned here for posts and the Saturday blog, and I’ll see you live again starting September 1.
