In 1929, Schall invested his entire savings in his first Leica camera, and his photographic career began. Schall was a peer of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andre Kertesz and Willy Ronis.
His photographs appeared in over 150 international publications, such as Vogue, Vu, Picture Post, Life, and Match through the Schall Frères agency he co-founded in 1931 with his brother Raymond.
He left behind a treasure trove of 100,000 photographs, a testament to his prolific career, waiting to be (re)discovered through the Schall Estate Collection. This collection, curated by his granddaughter, Cécile Schall, and his great-grandson, Lucas d’Aram, unveils new facets of Schall’s photographic legacy.
