| Donald Trump is accelerating into a new stage of his bid for complete control of America's institutions. On Wednesday, ABC announced that it would pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! after the host made comments about Charlie Kirk's death that enraged the president's fans. Now, the FCC is claiming victory over Kimmel's downfall — even as chair Brendan Carr insists that his agency isn't performing hits on media companies at the president's behest. Wednesday's news proves that the agency is on the front lines in Donald Trump's efforts to bully the mainstream media into submission. Now, Trump is vowing that NBC is next. Coming on the heels of Pam Bondi and Stephen Miller's vows to use hate speech laws against Democrats in the wake of Kirk's murder, it's clear: the Trump administration is now consumed with suppressing dissenting speech.
