Kemi Badenoch defends Robert Jenrick's 'I saw no white faces' | Kemi Badenoch recorded a series of interviews that were all broadcast at 5pm, to try to set the agenda for her (second) big speech to the Conservative Party conference in Manchester tomorrow. Awkwardly, she spent much of the time defending Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, who had said he didn't see any white faces when filming in Handsworth in Birmingham, and that it was "like a slum". She said that his comments had been taken "out of context" and that he was arguing for integration. Jenrick's was the big speech of the day, but I wrote that it was such a poor effort that perhaps his Baldrick-style cunning plan was to avoid being accused of trying to outshine the leader. | |
