Donald Trump has sparked widespread outrage this week after demolition work began on part of the White House to make way for his controversial $250 million ballroom, despite earlier assurances that the historic building would remain untouched.

Construction crews arrived on site on Monday (20 October) to begin work on the much-hyped project, but few anticipated that it would involve dismantling a section of the iconic residence itself.

Just months ago, Trump insisted that the new ballroom would be built "near" the White House and that "no part of the existing building would be touched". That promise now appears to have been quietly discarded.

Meanwhile, Trump has faced fresh backlash over his latest presidential pardon. In typical Trump fashion, he responded to the 'No Kings' protests with an AI-generated video, a move that has only added fuel to the fire.

A 'gravity anomaly' may sound dramatic, but as defined by EBSCO, they pertain to "deviations in the expected measurements of gravity at specific locations on Earth, primarily influenced by variations in subsurface rock density" – and French academics have identified an "unusual gravity signal" which took place over the Atlantic Ocean in early 2007.

Using data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment satellites (referred to as GRACE for short), the study team write in their conclusion: "We have identified an anomalous large-scale gravity gradient signal in the eastern Atlantic ocean, maximum at the beginning of 2007, which cannot be fully explained by surface water sources nor core fluid flows."

The academics say the signal occurred between 2006 and 2008 and spanned an area of 7,000 kilometres. They also note that at around the same time as the anomaly, a "distinct" jerk was "observed in the same region using satellite magnetic data".

No, this particular space jerk isn't Elon Musk, but rather a geomagnetic jerk, where the Earth's magnetic field "suddenly and unexpectedly accelerates"...

ChatGPT is set to loosen its content restrictions just in time for the festive season, with OpenAI confirming that erotica will soon be available for verified adult users. The announcement has prompted a flurry of mixed reactions, with some users declaring: "No one asked for this".

In a statement, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman explained that the AI chatbot was initially made "pretty restrictive" in order to be "careful" around mental health concerns.

However, Altman now believes those measures made ChatGPT "less useful/enjoyable" for users who weren't struggling with such issues.

"Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases," he said.

He added that a forthcoming version will allow users to tailor the tone of responses, whether they want it "to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend."

It's important to note that mental health safeguards for users under 18 will remain in place. OpenAI is currently developing an age prediction system to help determine whether someone is over or under 18, allowing the ChatGPT experience to be appropriately tailored for different age groups.

The decision to lift limits for adults has been broadly welcomed – but one final detail in Altman's post left many baffled.

"In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our 'treat adult users like adults' principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults," he wrote.

Career minimalism means opting for a balanced approach – where expanding skills and well-being take precedence over chasing titles or climbing higher for its own sake.
