Artists use a solution of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide, which reacts to ultraviolet light to create Prussian blue images. After coating paper (often cotton rag paper) with the solution and allowing it to dry, they place objects or negatives on top and expose the assemblage to sunlight or UV light. Washing the print in water both stops the exposure and stabilizes the deep blue image. While artists can make cyanotype prints in edition, each work is a unique piece. Note: Some collectors like the organic brush strokes and edges from the paper being coated, others prefer to mat these out when framed. I noticed the light caught the edges and spines of the leaves beautifully. Using cyanotype to print this image with rich blue tones gave a luminous quality and emphasized the forms with a surreal, dramatic quality. | | | | | | | | Title: Tulips Artist: Stephen Sheffield Date of image: 2025 Size: 12x16 inches (30x41 cm) Format: cyanotype Features: signed on back, unique print Price: $350 Subscriber Price: $300* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: Fading cut tulips removed from a vase and set on our kitchen counter to be replaced by a fresh bouquet. The light was as perfect as the tulips were imperfect. The scene was captured with as shallow a depth of field as I could to add a layer of texture and mystery. I printed in cyanotype to provide a sense of nostalgia and of time passing and of course for the beautiful monochromatic blue. | | | | | | | | Title: Stilled Flight Artist: Sandra Davis Date of image: 2023 Size: 9x12 inches (23x30 cm) Format: Cyanotype Features: signed on front, edition of 8 Price: $400 Subscriber Price: $350* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: The Silenced Series portrays my obsession with natural history. Collecting specimens removes their history, allowing them to be preserved. “Silenced” is my response to our collective loss of songbirds. Photographing deceased birds and taxidermy displays conveys what is missing, songs. Printing cyanotype on sheet music returns their songs to them. | | | | | | | | Title: Pukimna Series 04 Artist: Magdéleine Ferru Date of image: 2021 Size: 8x13 inches (20x33 cm) Format: cyanotype over inkjet Features: signed on back, edition of 7 Price: $1200 Subscriber Price: $875* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: I like using cyanotype for its timeless and mysterious side. The vagueness of the where and when, territory and time frame, gives a path to dreams and wanderings, to another reality. For this project blending different technics reinforce the dreamlike side of the legend. In Inuit mythology Pukimna is the guardian of the caribou hordes, goddess of fertility and medicine | | | | | | | | Title: Moon Over Yosemite Valley Artist: Marek Matusz Date of image: 2022 Size: 11x14 inches (28x36 cm) Format: toned cyanotype Features: signed on back, unique print Price: $450 Subscriber Price: $375* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: Using cyanotype to express the moon and Yosemite actually predates Ansel Adams and his famous photograpg by decades, so it seems to bring some fresh interpretation to the subject matter making it unique and able to stand on its own. Toning cyanotypes takes away the harsh cyanotype hue and "ages" the print. | | | | | | | | Title: Behind Langtry Church Artist: Carla Christian Date of image: 2019 Size: 11x14 inches (28x36 cm) Format: cyanotype Features: signed on back, unique print Price: $400 Subscriber Price: $350* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: I work in cyanotype because I love the way this process seems alive as it interacts with the environment, the elements, and the gleanings of the natural world. It may be the simplest of the alternative processes, but it is also both capricious and infinitely variable. | | | | | | | | Title: Wing Artist: Sergey Lebedev Date of image: 2023 Size: 8x12 inches (20x30 cm) Format: cyanotype Features: signed on back, unique print Price: $800 Subscriber Price: $675* (*next 24 hours only, until Oct 9, 9:00 am PST) Artist statement: I chose cyanotype for its simplicity and magic. Sunlight, water, paper—and an image appears, like a dream. It’s a meditation in blue: a way to pause, feel the moment, and preserve it forever. | | | | V - Vintage - printed within one year of when the photograph was taken, rare 1 - One Print Available - we have only one print of this image L - Large Format - photograph listed is a large-size print S - Small Edition - produced with a very small edition U - Unique Work - only one image can be made of this work | | | |
