It's official: Zohran Mamdani is New York's new mayor! 

The 34-year-old democratic socialist from Queens secured the win with just over half of the vote. Former governor Andrew Cuomo, 67, came in second with a little more than 40 per cent, while Curtis Sliwa trailed with around 7 per cent.

Celebrations erupted across the city, from street parties to watch gatherings, and the news also made waves online, with people across the globe "living vicariously" through New Yorkers.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump claimed he is a "much better looking person" than Mamdani – a statement the internet begged to differ on.

Separately, during his victory speech, Mamdani made a pointed reference to Trump with just four words: "Turn the volume up."

He also thanked his wife, Syrian-American artist Rama Duwaji, saying: "There is no one I would rather have by my side in this moment, and in every moment."

His campaign was powered by a surge of young and progressive voters, drawn in by bold promises on affordability, housing and transit. The real test now, Mamdani says, lies in turning victories into action.

There are many things about Paris that draw millions of visitors every year, but haute couture and protesting are certainly two of the city's strongest suits.

So when it was announced that controversial fast fashion company Shein would be opening a store in none other than BHV Marais, one of Paris's most iconic department stores, locals weren't having it.

The store, set to open on Saturday (1 November), has ignited a petition, "PARIS MÉRITE MIEUX QUE SHEIN!" – or "PARIS DESERVES BETTER THAN SHEIN!" – which has already racked up 111,609 signatures and counting.

Several French brands have already pulled their products from BHV in protest. Workers at the department store also gathered outside earlier this month to voice their opposition to Shein's arrival.

Beauty brand AIME was among those to take a stand, with founder Mathilde Lacombe turning to LinkedIn to express her fury: "I'm deeply shocked to see a historic Parisian department store welcome Shein within its walls."

The backlash didn't stop at the store's doors. Even Paris City Hall weighed in.

"For us, Shein represents ultra-fast fashion, it's a model we must fight," Florentin Letissier, the city's deputy mayor for sustainability and waste reduction, said. "These are cheap clothes [...] They're bad for the planet and for our own designers."

That said, younger women are showing notable interest: Gen Z women are more likely than any other age group to explore polyamory, while older men, particularly baby boomers, tend to seek non-monogamous arrangements as they get older.

The remix was first created by TikTok creator @dj.auxlord, who often puts together random tunes you wouldn't expect to work together but seemingly do, and this particular remix was first shared back in August and began going viral this month.

There have been over 870,000 videos made to this remix, and it shows no sign of slowing down. 

Even the likes of Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner joined in on the fun, with a clip that's racked up over 39.8 million views.
