As I sit here writing this, my boots and jeans are covered in mud and I have scratches from wild blackberry vines. It's the product of a day in the field when Santiago Ochoa and I were hiking out to the Skagit River in Cape Horn earlier today.
We spoke with Hamilton residents who had moved their RVs from a trailer park by the Skagit River to a church. One man said moving ahead of flooding is just a byproduct of living in Hamilton. He then quipped that one would think the town would have better flood levies.
Right now, portions of Skagit County and Whatcom County remain under a flood watch. Other parts are under a flood warning. With more rain on the way, the Skagit River is forecasted to crest at 40 feet — a near record level — in Concrete Thursday morning. Skagit County is encouraging residents living in low-lying areas to plan and prepare for potential evacuations.
You can let us know how you're planning for potential flooding or how it's impacting you by replying to this email.
