Eighty-seven chimes for eighty-seven people whose lives mattered.
The words of Melissa Osborne, a Western professor who opened and closed the event, have stuck with me today. She said that the work to address homelessness, which often revolves around data, policies and budgets, sometimes leads to the broader community losing sight of the core issue of homelessness.
"At the center of all of this are real people, family, friends, spouses and neighbors who have been pushed to the silent margins of society, whose lives not only matter but deserve better from our community," Melissa said.
