The White House confirmed the ouster of Pam Bondi on Thursday, the second Cabinet secretary to get the boot in 2026.
Donald Trump's attorney general seemingly did everything to win her boss's approval. Over a little more than a year, she oversaw the evolution of the Department of Justice into a vehicle for fighting the president's personal grudges, something previous attorneys general refused to do.
It wasn't enough.
On Thursday, Bondi wrote on X that she was moving to a position to the private sector in the next month after helping Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche take on the role.
Lee Zeldin, a former congressman and failed gubernatorial candidate from New York, is reportedly under consideration for the role.
The announcement caps off the end of Bondi's much-maligned time in office, which was overshadowed by her handling of the Epstein files. Trump's campaign for the presidency ginned up speculation about the files' contents, and Bondi's slow-walking of their release ultimately sealed her public image problem.
It's a rought time to be in the Cabinet.
Bondi's firing comes on the heels of an embarrassing exposé revealing that former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's husband was texting lewd pictures to online models as he engaged in a cross-dressing "bimbofication" fetish.
Meanwhile, Congress is still in recess — and Republicans are backing away from the idea of reaching a compromise with Democrats on ICE funding altogether.
