Next week, a historic hearing on federal cannabis rescheduling will begin—although you won't be able to watch it...at least not under an initial order from the DEA judge who will be overseeing the proceedings.
But Marijuana Moment is taking action and standing up to make sure that the testimony—which involves only cannabis reform opponents as invited participants—don't happen behind closed doors with limited in-person seating.
The DEA judge simultaneously recognized that "national public interest in this issue predicates towards a policy of transparency" while also determining that "the hearing will not be televised, livestreamed, or broadcasted in any way."
In a letter that Marijuana Moment's attorney sent this week, we are asking him to reconsider the decision to prohibit livestreaming.
"Limited physical seating...is not a meaningful substitute for livestreaming," our lawyer Joseph A. Bondy wrote. "Marijuana Moment, like many members of the press and public who follow federal cannabis policy nationally, cannot rely on a handful of available seats as a practical means of observing and reporting on the hearing." |
