The BBC long enjoyed a monopoly with terrestrial TV but has spectacularly failed to adjust to new media realities. Ask an 18-year-old in their first home if they think it makes sense to pay £180 a year to watch the few BBC shows they might actually be interested in, and it’s a no-brainer.
