Investigation resumes into Farage’s £5m crypto ‘gift’ |
Nigel Farage has been returned to Parliament as the MP for Clacton-on-Sea. But for how long?
His second stint at the job could be short-lived after an investigation into his £5 million donation from a crypto-billionaire was re-opened.
In the early hours the Reform UK leader decisively won the by-election he had called, securing more than 22,000 votes.
But his closest rival, satirical candidate Count Binface, managed to take nearly 27 per cent of the vote - in a contest boycotted by the main Westminster parties.
When he resigned as an MP and called the by-election, he said “the people of Clacton should be the judges of my actions”.
But that message has failed to sway the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Just hours after the result was announced, his office confirmed the probe, which had been paused for the by-election, has now resumed.
Ultimately, the investigation could see Mr Farage forced into another by-election in Clacton - and fighting for his political life all over again.
