From today's news, I'd like to highlight my colleague Charlotte Alden's report on the impending cleanup of the encampment behind Walmart. The City of Bellingham next week will begin a likely multi-year effort to clean up the private property, promising a "people-centered approach."

The city has contacted about 70 homeless outreach workers, asking them to connect with people in the encampment, though the numbers have dwindled. Meanwhile, an encampment behind the Jack in the Box is growing. The city has its eyes on the six private properties that make up that encampment, too. More on that soon.
