Have you heard the good news? No, it's not that The Independent's Lessons in Lifestyle newsletter has arrived in your inbox (hello!) – it's that Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson are now an item.
This week, my colleague Helen Coffey has found herself properly and unashamedly obsessed with the idea of a Liamela/Pamiam mash-up – and writes that it's a one piece of delightful celebrity gossip we could all use right now.
Elsewhere this week, Katie Rosseinsky writes that it's officially the summer of the Franken-sandwich. Surely you've noticed every supermarket selling a variation on the sickly sweet cake-sandwich hybrid. There's Marks & Spencer's strawberries and cream offering, two wedges of "soft, sweetened bread" cemented together with blobs of cream cheese and studded with strawberry slices. Tesco has had a go, too: launching its "birthday cake" butty, comprised of brioche bread filled with multicoloured sprinkles, cream cheese icing and vanilla frosting. But why are we being subjected to such discombobulating lunchtime experiences, and who's eating it? Read more here.
Meanwhile, Hannah Ewens attempts to take control of her subconscious mind – and has unexpected results. "Can't secure a job interview? Your subconscious might be blocking your efforts. Struggling to lose weight? You might believe you don't deserve to. The idea is that even if you consciously want something, conflicting subconscious beliefs can sabotage it," writes Ewens.
"I found that engaging with it could be playful and easy. If you can be open-minded – and, considering where the science is currently, you do have to be receptive to radical new ideas – you might be surprised by what you learn about yourself." Find out more here.
In this week's newsletter you can expect:
- The surreal rise of the supermarket food stunt
- How to reprogram your subconscious mind for a better life
- I went to a grief rave – here's why everyone should try it
